Enterprise Mobile Experience

Turning complex workforce management into a simpler mobile experience.

UKG's employee mobile experience supported essential workforce tasks including schedules, time, pay, and employee self-service. I led mobile experience strategy and product design, using customer research to identify the workflows that mattered most and redesign them for the speed and simplicity employees needed on mobile.

The challenge

Enterprise workflows had become increasingly complex on mobile.

Employees needed quick access to everyday workforce tasks, but enterprise complexity made common mobile interactions harder than they needed to be.

The challenge was to simplify high-priority workflows without removing the functionality employees depended on.

Key decisions

Key design decisions

01

Prioritize the moments that matter most on mobile

Rather than recreate the full desktop experience on a smaller screen, we focused mobile on the high-frequency, time-sensitive tasks employees needed away from their desks — checking schedules, managing time, requesting time off, and responding to exceptions. Mobile was designed around employee context, not as a miniature version of the desktop product.

Workshop framing of the mobile home experience around highest-priority employee tasks.

02

Simplify complex workforce workflows for mobile

Complex enterprise workflows were redesigned around short, focused interactions. We reduced unnecessary steps, surfaced the information employees needed to make decisions, and optimized common actions for quick completion on a phone.

03

Create reusable patterns instead of one-off solutions

Rather than designing each workflow independently, we established reusable mobile patterns for navigation, selection, approvals, calendars, forms, and common workforce actions. This created consistency across experiences while giving product teams a foundation they could extend.

Prototype flows used to validate shared schedule and time-off patterns in testing.

04

Explore new interaction models beyond the UI

We explored conversational AI as a complementary interaction model for employees who needed quick answers or actions without navigating traditional screens. Rather than replacing the mobile experience, it created another path into common workforce tasks and information.

The solution

A simpler mobile experience for everyday workforce tasks.

The resulting mobile experience gave employees a focused way to manage the workforce tasks that mattered most throughout their day — from schedules and timecards to time-off requests, approvals, pay, and employee information. Shared interaction patterns created a more predictable experience across workflows while providing a foundation that could scale as new capabilities were introduced.

01 · Everyday workflows

Quick access to schedules, time, requests, approvals, and other frequent employee tasks.

02 · Employee experience

Personalized information and actions surfaced in context.

03 · Scalable mobile system

Shared patterns created consistency across workforce experiences.
